The Incredibility of Mental Health

In the hustle and bustle of modern life, amidst the pressures and expectations, we often find ourselves neglecting an essential aspect of our well-being: mental health. Just as we prioritize our physical health, our mental well-being requires attention and care.

Mental health has also recently become a modern term that is often associated with “healing” or “self-healing”, especially among millennials and Generation Z. Not a few people think that mental health is trivial, on the pretext that it is too much, too dramatizing, or just drifting in the atmosphere. Indeed, mental health is different from physical health which tends to be more ‘visible’. Psychological health is just as crucial as physical health, even more so, because it can affect emotions, furthermore, it can have a positive or negative impact on a person’s physique.

Successful people have mental health that tends to be good, on the other hand, people with mental disorders can do things that go beyond the limits, such as vandalism, murder, self-harm, and even suicide. Of course, there are factors that trigger a person’s mental character: parents, friends, environment, life background, and so on.

We want to argue about one of these factors, namely the environment. Because this environment also includes other factors. A comfortable and healthy environment can be created from people around us who often give affection to us, and always support us when we experience life problems, both from parents and colleagues, no matter how bad the background in life we have.

However, not everyone can have these supporting factors, not everyone can get attention and recover quickly from this mental disorder. Besides everyone has different life problems, but they cannot solve them alone. Not all of them can express it to others, even those closest to them, maybe because they don’t have trust or think they won’t get a solution. Some are forced to suppress their feelings, like embracing a bomb that will one day produce an extraordinary explosion. The explosion of pent-up emotions is more dangerous.

It would be nice if we pay attention to others, be more sensitive, and care about the environment in which there are people closest to us. Sometimes, those with mental disorders just want their complaints to be heard, there is a place to pour out their hearts and minds, that’s all. That’s the point of our existence.

And if we are experiencing mental disorders, or feel we are experiencing them, we should seek solutions and ask for help for all the problems we have. It’s okay, don’t hesitate to express your feelings to those closest to you, It’s better than keeping it to yourself and taking cover behind the words “it’s okay” or “everything is fine” because that’s more painful and sad. Of course, everyone has their portion to open, but slowly, all the obstacles in your mind can undoubtedly be overcome if you also want to.

As you walk along the complicated labyrinth of life, remember that nurturing your mental health is a non-negotiable investment. Just like reading an exciting novel that makes you engrossed until the last page, your mental well-being can captivate your attention and emotions throughout your journey. Embrace the power of self-care, shatter the stigma, and weave a tapestry of relationships and practices that support your mental harmony. Your mind is your treasure, take care of and protect its growth. — Muhammad Aditya Prawira,Public Relation Departmen, ILC HMP-UGM
