The brain is the most important organ for every human being that can absorb a lot of information. We, humans, think and process information that goes through our brains. From that process, we can divide the important and the less important information.

However, in reality, many of us have difficulty determining which information is needed or insignificant. This can happen because of our wrong thinking patterns. One of the right patterns of thinking is positive thinking. We need to think positively in order to process any information before we react to a particular condition.

For example, when we hear stories or information about us. It turns out that our friends in one organization dislike us because we are too fussy or we have more creative ideas that are often used in organizational activities. Without positive thinking, perhaps, the first thing that comes to our mind might be; “she/he is jealous”, “she/he loathes me”, or even worse, maybe we do not feel confident anymore to convey our ideas, which we should be free to convey our creative ideas in our organization for organization development. This can cause a lot of harm to ourselves and within our organization.

On the other hand, if we implement positive thinking, we might respond to that situation calmly and will certainly reduce the impact that is not good for ourselves. For instance, we might think “Maybe she/he said that because he has a different opinion from me” or “she/he is just criticizing me”. That will help us to control our emotions because it reduces negative thoughts that readily invade our minds.

Furthermore, the question is, does positive thinking solve our problems?

Sadly, I would say, of course not. According to Abu Nayla Al Magety, in “Positive thinking Therapy Method”, positive thinking is only one’s basic asset because positive thinking is not enough to face more complex problems. Yet, if we think positively, we will be able to succeed. On the contrary, if we think negative, we will tend to fail

There are some benefits that we will get if we think positively:

First, our daily life will be more peaceful. By thinking positively, we will become calmer and able to think clearly because we tend to avoid negative thoughts.

Second, we become more confident. With positive thinking, we will be more confident in daily activities.

Third, we will continue to learn. This happens because in positive thinking we tend to see things positively it spurs us to learn to be better.

Fourth, we will be successful. With positive thinking, we tend to take a decision calmly and precisely that directs us to our goals. — Yosef Fredrik Lagadoni Meran Kraeng, Human Resource and Development Department, ILC HMP-UGM.
