In the blessed month of Ramadan, the International Language Center University of Gadjah Mada (ILC UGM) held its annual charity program: ILC Care. This year, we visited an orphanage on the outskirt of Sleman Region, Panti Nurul Yasmin. Nurul Yasmin Orphanage and ILC have already had a good companionship since a few years ago. Therefore, to establish our relation, this Ramadan of 2023, we once again spent a full day with our beloved sisters and together had a bit of fun iftar.
The event was started with a remark by the Head of ILC, Didi, and Mrs. Giyanti the Head of Nurul Yasmin. It was getting even more fun after our MC, Budi, and Anah introduced ILC members to 23 girls of Nurul Yasmin. As a follow-up, surely Nurul Yasmin girls who were around 7 to 20 years old also enthusiastically introduced themselves. Their ages and education ranged from elementary school to university students. They all cheerfully welcomed us and soon became closer as we interacted.
The main event was a short movie screening titled “Crow: The Legend” as we were waiting for iftar time. It is a short movie starred by John Legend, Oprah Winfrey, and Constance Wu. The film was beautifully animated and inspired by Native American legend. Therefore, our ILC members and Nurul Yasmin girls were immersed in the story.
After the movie, we had a discussion, led by Farah to interact with each other. Surprisingly, almost all Nurul Yasmin girls were excited to join the discussion about the movie we had watched. One by one were appointed to retell the moral story of the movie. We also learned English by mentioning new vocabulary we found during the movie.
Finally, after waiting (with fun) for hours, the time for iftar had come. We enjoy iftar with delicious food, beverages, and get closer as ILC members mingled with the girls. We closed the day by praying together, then handed merchandise and books as a remembrance of a lasting friendship between ILC and Nurul Yasmin.
